Des centaines de profs intéressés par un changement de carrière

A former teacher is “surprised and dismayed” that her workshop for teachers looking to change careers is attracting interest from hundreds of people, many of whom are considering leaving teaching or finding temporary employment in a context. negotiations which extend over time.

“I'm a little surprised,” says Maude Trépanier, who has been a teacher for almost 25 years. The Montreal woman created a Facebook event to invite people to participate in a live discussion titled “Building the Future Beyond Education.” At the time of writing, 365 people wanted to participate, and almost 2000 checked the “interested” option.

“I see a lot of people around me, who are former colleagues or teaching friends [à la tête de familles] single parents or as two-teacher couples, and those who have lost thousands of dollars in income and are completing their resumes, or have submitted them, he explained. It's been almost two years since I started my business and I've learned since I thought about quitting, and I told myself that I would share my experience with them. »

His workshop is aimed at those looking for temporary work the strike, or those who want to leave teaching completely. But he didn't expect hundreds of teachers to show interest on the social network. “I thought it was just going to be my friends,” she laughs.

“The message I want to express is that I do not necessarily want everyone to leave teaching, it is not an action in that sense, because society needs dedicated teachers and people, it is responsible for determining. But at the same time, individually, what I want to say is that we don't have to carry that weight. »

He left teaching after a job break and experiencing a “tremendous rupture of meaning”. The working conditions of teachers and the learning conditions of students continue to deteriorate, he stated. “Teachers have a duty of reservation and they see terrible things, children who don't have the services they should have, and we don't have the right to say that,” he says.

“With the conflict that exists today, and with the contempt of the government, clear measures are being taken,” he said.
