The Social Position Index (IPS): a statistical tool for describing social inequalities between companies

Information notice No. 23.16, March 2023

The Social Position Index (IPS) makes it possible to take existing social inequalities between universities and within them into account. There are strong differences depending on the area and school sector. In addition, performance on the National Patent Diploma (DNB) and the IPS are highly correlated. However, if we take into account both the initial academic level at university entry and the IPS, some universities manage to perform better in the DNB than others. The added value indicators of the universities (IVAC) thus make it possible to quantify, for each university, the gap between the success observed at the DNB and the expected success in terms of the academic and social profile of the students admitted.
